Jan. 24, 2022 6:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.
OCD (Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder) is one of the most misunderstood and ignored diseases. At the same time, it is the 4th largest psychiatric diagnosis in the world. By detecting and treating people who suffer from it, we can drastically reduce the number of suicides, early retirements, failed studies, etc. and help them to a much better quality of life. Bengt is long-standing Rotarian and past president of Rotary Linné. He is “retired” but very active in the Swedish OCD Society and has a passion for spreading the important messages about the set of syndromes and diseases that are grouped under the heading of OCD. Bengt has a PhD from Uppsala and a long career in information technology among many other interests. Bengt will present to us via ZOOM. This is a virtual meeting only. Feb. 21, 2022 6:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.
Our guest speakers Elizabet Jensen and Myra Ekström will join us via zoom to share information about the District Committee Empowering Girls. For thousands of years, cultures that practice Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) have controlled women's lives in a dangerous and humiliating way. In 1995, activists set a goal to eradicate FGM by 2030. Tragically, if anything, the problem has worsened. Rotary International President Shekhar Mehta challenged incoming governors to work with Empowering Girls this year. Our own District Governor, Ulf Bingsgård, then asked Elisabet to form a committee within the district with the objective of spreading information about this appalling practice as well as other related harmful practices such as child marriages, early pregnancies, malnutrition of girls and other challenges that girls around the world face. Elisabet Jensen is past president of Helsinborg Sofiero Rotary Club, chair of the District Committee Empowering Girls and project leader of Empowering Girls on the H22. As a midwife Elisabet has first hand experience of women who have suffered from FGM. Among other practical activities, Elisabet has spent years sewing sanitary pad for girls in the Island of Ukerewe in Tanzania enabling them to attend school getting better than average results. Myra Ekström is a retired priest in the Church of Sweden. She has been a member of Rotary Louis De Geer in Norrköping for 26 years, but has recently moved to Malmö. She is active in supporting Network Against Female Genital Mutilation (NAFGEM). This will be a virtual meeting ONLY with our speakers presenting on Zoom. To join the Zoom Meeting:

Mar. 28, 2022 6:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.
Our guest speaker, Anna Herbert, is a senior lecturer and researcher in the department of psychology at Linné University in Småland. Her PhD work focused on PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder) which she pursued after completing an internship with the Red Cross during the Balkan crisis. Anna helped to educate junior nurses as they were on the front line, meeting and treating refugees. However, she eventually realized that many refugees spent most of their time in the classrooms, with the queue for treatment at the Red Cross or at hospital was over a year-long at the time and this informed her eventual PhD work. Back from London (where she was at Brunel University in Uxbridge) Anna got a job at Linné universitetet (called Kalmar Högskola at the time) and educated teachers and senior nurses. More recently she has followed schools that implement TMO (trauma medveten omsorg) in their organisations. Anna’s talk is very timely considering the current crisis in Ukraine and will address three topics: a) Trauma, crisis and war - the four phases of flight b) The brain's response to stress, crisis and trauma. c) The healing process - what can we do? This will be a hybrid meeting held at the Radisson Blu Hotel, Malmö, and virtually on Zoom, with Anna presenting in-person at the Radisson. To join the Zoom Meeting:

Apr. 11, 2022 6:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.
Tonight the Malmö International Rotary Club will hold a reciprocity circle for members. This meeting format is being piloted as an avenue for members to present a current professional or personal challenge to the club for advice and networking around solutions. Because some of the information shared may be of a sensitive or proprietary nature, only MIRC members, fellow Rotarians and invited guests will be admitted. This event falls under our motto of ‘Service Above Self’ in that we work to support and help our fellow members in Malmö International Rotary Club. The membership of Malmö International Rotary Club is comprised of adult professionals from 20 countries representing a multitude of industries, with each member having many years of professional and international experience. This incredible source of knowledge, experience, and networks, is as yet mostly untapped. By making members of the club aware of areas in which other members need help and assistance, we can draw from this comprehensive pool of contacts, thereby hopefully helping our members overcome their professional and personal hurdles quickly and easily. This meeting will be held at the hotel and virtually on Zoom.

Apr. 24, 2022 2:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m.
Easter is now behind us but the Spring is ahead of us and we will get a preview by walking together in Lund’s Botanical Gardens on Sunday afternoon. MIRC members, guests and friends will meet at the South Entrance, Östravångsvägen, at 14:00 and stroll the grounds for about an hour before sitting down for a picnic fika. There is a café to buy refreshments but often long queues on sunny days so it's a good idea to bring what you want and a blanket on which to sit. We will bring extra of everything in case anyone forgets. Dogs are allowed but need to be on a lead at all times. |

Apr. 25, 2022 6:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.
After meeting one another through a local community project, our guest speakers Pernilla Weman and Joanna Le Pluart were looking for other ways to bring people together. They came up with the idea of a ‘Humans of New York’ style Instagram account in February 2021, and ‘Voices of Västra Hamnen’ was launched in May 2021 to coincide with Bo01’s 20 th anniversary. If you’re curious about Västra Hamnen, or about how to start a community project on Instagram, this talk is for you. Swedish writer, Pernilla Weman, is a fun-loving culture vulture who, with the help of her Danish partner Ivan, keeps the local restaurants, arts and cultural scene alive. She teaches English and Swedish at S:t Petri school. English writer, Joanna Le Pluart, is curious about most things, including the environment, languages and urban anthropology. She and her Australian partner Craig have lived in Sweden for almost 30 years and both work as copywriters for international companies. This will be a hybrid meeting at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Malmö and may be attended in person or via Zoom. Guests are always warmly welcome at Malmö International Rotary meetings, either in-person or virtually. May 02, 2022 6:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.
In this talk, our guest speaker Mikkel Schønning Sørensen gives his perspective on the importance of attracting and retaining international talents in Scandinavia. The competition for international talent is fierce, so what measures are necessary to be competitive in a globalized labour market? And what you can do to help international talents stay in Scandinavia? The presentation is based on Mikkel's personal experiences - both from staying abroad to study and work and from being a mentor for international talents. This will be a hybrid meeting at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Malmö and may be attended in person or via Zoom. To join the Zoom Meeting: Guests are always warmly welcome at Malmö International Rotary meetings, either in-person or virtually. May 09, 2022 6:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.
Our guest speakers this evening are Deborah Mattsson Clarke from MIRC and Alejandra Feijóo Carmona from IKF. A preview: "Once upon a time, there were some women who met over a cup of coffee. Some of the women came from the former Yugoslavia and wanted to learn more about their new home. Some of the women came from Sweden and wanted to share their knowledge. The cups of coffee grew into study circles and IKF was born." Join us to hear about how IKF has evolved into a force for positive change by helping foreign-born women become valuable resources in Swedish society: as employees, community leaders or business owners. Learn about how the ongoing relationship with MIRC and IKF has blossomed into the Open-Door project and bought a wealth of talent and new perspectives into our club.
